THE HEROINE PROJECT PRESENTS
"The Serpent's Tale" celebrates Hemel Hempstead's history and The Water Gardens, using storytelling, music, theatre, and interactive elements to engage, inform, and entertain. The performance travels along The Marlowes, drawing diverse audiences with its lively street-theatre elements. It then leads to an intimate storytelling adventure in The Water Gardens, exploring hidden places and stories.
Focusing on regeneration, transformation, and sustainability, the piece intertwines three human narratives: Susan Jellicoe, the unsung co-creator of the garden; Margaret Noles, a fictional young woman moving to Hemel Hempstead in 1962; and Alex King, a modern-day resident of Swan Court. The May Queen, a wild and whimsical character, narrates these stories, inviting the audience to explore The Water Gardens's history and contemporary relevance.
With meticulous historical detail, the performance highlights Susan Jellicoe's work and brings the community together to appreciate The Water Gardens's shared history and public space.
I took great pleasure in producing the promotional material for "The Serpent's Tale," skillfully blending a historic look and feel with bold, captivating illustrated visuals to effectively convey this dramatic event's essence. My aim was to ignite the audience's curiosity and entice them to attend this extraordinary performance that celebrates Hemel Hempstead's history and The Water Gardens while emphasizing the significance of the historical aspects of the performance.
